  4. Private Banking - Roelle van Voorden

From trainee to Client Account Manager

Blog by Roëlle van Voorden
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Roëlle van Voorden, and I've been a Private Banking Client Account Manager at Van Lanschot Kempen since October 2016. I started as a trainee in Amsterdam, and eventually I was able to transfer to the Haarlem office as a Client Account Manager.

As a Client Account Manager, together with two Private Bankers, I manage a portfolio of around 120 clients each.  As Wealth Managers, our main task is managing and maintaining the assets of our clients. Alongside the various investment options and financing issues, we also provide advice on estate planning and structuring.

In my role as a Client Account Manager, I'm responsible for the overall portfolio planning, together with the Private Banker. I'm at the heart of the organisation, and I love this.
While this role was originally administrative in nature, it has increasingly become a commercial role. In addition to planning, preparing and implementing agreements, these days I'm also intensively involved with advising clients and being their sparring partner and first point of contact.

For example, I'm involved with mortgage-related issues, investment solutions, and providing information about our investment vision and strategy.
Together with the investment, financing and/or structuring specialist, I meet our clients in the consulting room each week with the Private Banker. This development requires me to collect the necessary information and to upgrade my knowledge level. The Private Banking Academy has helped enormously with this.

The Private Banking Academy is an initiative within Van Lanschot Kempen. It ensures that we have the knowledge available in house to offer added value, and thus to serve our clients as effectively as possible. It brings together internal and external knowledge and inspiration. For example, we make use of our own Knowledge Centre, while working intensively with the University of Tilburg and VU University Amsterdam.

In this context, I was part of the first group this year to start the internal basic training in Financial Planning. Our colleagues from the Knowledge Centre use their practical experience to develop the content of the course. I'm really enthusiastic!

As a young employee, it's great for me to have opportunities for personal development, and for growth and promotion. I successfully completed this training at the start of July, which opened the door for me for further training at the Private Banking Academy for Client Account Managers, and later the training courses for Private Bankers as well.

This training will help me achieve my ambition of growing to become a Private Banker, and also helps me to develop in my current role. I see this as a great development for the client, for myself and of course, it creates commitment and a stronger bond with the best Wealth Manager in the Netherlands.
